Confined Space Rescue
A confined space is classed as any space of an enclosed nature where any danger of death exists. It is a dangerous activity which has the potential to put lives at risk of serious injury or even death.
Death or serious injury can happen not just to the individuals working in the space, but also to the people who attempt to carry out any rescue without the proper training and equipment.
If things go wrong in the confined space
Only fully trained and equipped specialist personnel should attempt a rescue; any ill-prepared attempt to rescue someone from a confined space only serves to put more lives in danger.
The regulations are clear, you must make suitable arrangements for emergency rescue and you should not rely on the public emergency services.
Confined Spaces can often be narrow and access far from ideal for rescuers, which is why our rescue teams have advanced rope rescue skills at their disposal, enabling them to react quickly to any situation that occurs.
Confined space rescue team
Abfad’s confined space rescue team can provide a demonstration rescue for workers before the job commences, this gives personnel a visible demonstration of the rescue strategy and techniques involved for any incident that could occur.
Once the rescue team is in position, they are capable of assessing the injured person, employing the correct and safe rescue techniques needed to ensure the injured party is recovered quickly and no further lives are put in danger.
To assist with vertical descents and ascents, mechanical winches and tripods can be set up over the access point, these help aid with the removal of any injured party from the space.
